Details of the Vizcaya Greenway by bicycle from Bilbao
Cycle along the Vizcaya Greenways and get to know one of the most beautiful provinces of the country. Cycle through a unique landscape and enjoy its gastronomy and culture at the end of each stage.
There are 4 easy stages starting and finishing in Bilbao designed for those who are just starting out and want to do something different.
Day 1: Arrival at the first hotel the previous day to the first stage
Arrival in Bilbao the day before the tour. Accommodation at Hotel Photo Zabalburu, in the center of Bilbao, to stroll around the capital of Vizcaya and get ready for the start of the route the next day. Bed and Breakfast.
Day 2: Bilbao-Sopuerta 30km
Departure from Bilbao and travel through the area of Meatzaldea to the beach of La Arena in Muskiz. From this point, the Barbadun trail links up with part of the Montes de Hierro Greenway to Sopuerta. You will have the option of passing by the El Pobal Ironworks and the Loizaga Tower Museum. Finally arrival and accommodation at Casa Rural La Enkartada on bed and breakfast basis.
Day 3: Sopuerta-Valle de Villaverde 30km
During the first part, we will travel the rest of the Vía Verde de los Montes de Hierro towards the more rural area of Las Encartaciones. We will visit part of the Natural Park of Alen to then get to Turtzios, and from there to Valle de Villaverde under the Natural Park of Armañon. Accommodation on bed and breakfast basis at Posada Calera.
Day 4: Valle de Villaverde-Zalla 30km
In today’s stage we will go to the mountains of Garbea and Kolitza, also to the viewpoints of Las Encartaciones to reach the town of Balmaseda. A complete tour of the old town and the possibility of visiting points of interest such as La Enkartada beret factory, Via Crucis Museum, Church of San Severino, etc … Rest of the route along the Roman road Camino de Santiago to Zalla through Bolumburu. Accommodation and breakfast at Hotel Ibarra Zalla.
Day 5: Zalla-Bilbao 30km
The first part of the route goes through the Salcedo Valley, through the area of the Ilsos, to go down to a municipality of Indians as Gordexola where you can enjoy the palaces of Indians and arrival to Sodupe. From this point, through the Kadagua Route we will arrive to Bilbao.

What is it like to do the Vizcaya Greenway by bicycle from Bilbao?
Cycling through Vizcaya by bicycle will not disappoint you. You will be able to discover the essence of the Basque Country in the best possible way, by bicycle.
You will have the opportunity to get to know Bilbao and the surrounding area through the Vizcaya Greenways by bicycle, through variable terrains that are easy on the eyes. A good option if you want to pedal at your own pace.
All the stages are designed to minimize the elevation changes and make them easier to pedal. The objective is to pedal slowly and enjoy the environment. The distance to be covered each day will be approximately 30km.
Usual accommodations for the trip
The accommodations for this trip have been selected for their quality and location, as close as possible to the route. Always valuing the comfort when arriving with the bike and inspected by our team. They are 2-4 star hotels and rural tourism accommodation, always in private rooms with bathroom and good food!
I am only one person, can I still book?
Yes, you can book as a single traveler.
Is it possible to rent a bike?
Yes, this trip can be done with either your bike or ours. You can choose it during the booking process, hybrid or electric mountain bikes are available.
Is the daily luggage transfer between accommodations included?
Yes, every day we will take your luggage to the next hotel. You only have to leave it at the reception desk, and we will take care of everything. Normally it will already be at the hotel when you arrive.
Is it possible to cancel?
We want to be as flexible as possible. Therefore, in case of unforeseen circumstances, we will do our best to change the dates of the trip free of charge so that you can travel within the same year, as long as you let us know at least 3 weeks in advance.
And if your plans change and you want to cancel the trip before the start date, the following handling fees will apply:
– with more than 30 days, the management fees will be 20% of the amount of the trip.
– between 30 and 15 days, the handling fee will be 50% of the amount of the trip.
– with less than 14 days, the amount to be paid will be 100% of the amount of the trip.
In order to have more flexibility, we recommend taking out travel, assistance, CR and cancellation insurance. Check with us the conditions. Please note that the price of the insurance is not refunded once contracted in case of cancellation or modification.
Are there roads?
Practically the entire trip is on Vias Verdes, tracks or asphalt roads. If you make the stage to Valencia, there are a few kilometers of link that are made by road where you should drive with caution.
