8 days/7 nights/6 stages – Moderate (2/3)
Impressive stone dams, breathtaking routes, and villages surrounded by the most beautiful and highest peaks of the Swiss Alps: every cyclist’s dream come true in Valais.
Starting from Leuk, discover the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park and the wonderful Moosalp Pass. The route continues past the sparkling mountain lakes of the Goms Valley, crossing picturesque villages and alpine panoramas of rock and ice.
Day 1: Arrival in Leuk
A relaxed day to explore Leuk the day before you start cycling. If you have rented bicycles, you will receive them here. Today is all about unwinding and getting ready for a beautiful cycling journey.
Day 2: Circular route through the Turtmanntal Valley – Susten
90 km | 2,110 m+
You will enjoy peaceful first kilometres riding through the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park, just before the rooftops of Sierre come into view. You then pedal through vineyards to Agarn, where the first serious ramps begin, climbing towards the wild and remote Turtmanntal Valley.
The descent back into the Rhône Valley is your reward for the effort, setting the scene for the final climb of the day: a stretch winding through vineyards and the steep walls of the Dala Gorge. The stage ends in Susten.
Day 3: Susten – Moosalp – Brig
68 km | 1,585 m+
You quickly leave the Rhône route to tackle the winding ascent to the Moosalp Pass. Take time to breathe deeply and enjoy the panoramic views at the top, because the descent to Visperterminen is simply spectacular. As a perfect finale to the stage, you’ll pass very close to the Brigerbad thermal baths.
Day 4: Excursion to the Gibidum Dam
22 km | 840 m+
Today your legs get a short break. A gentle climb takes you to the wall of the Gibidum Dam, an impressive structure located at the foot of the Aletsch Glacier, just above the dramatic Massa Gorge.
Day 5: Brig – Grimsel Pass – Obergesteln
82 km | 2,125 m+
After regaining your strength, you follow the Rhône River through the typical villages of the Goms Valley. In Oberwald, take some time to refuel before tackling the Grimsel Pass — a challenge reserved for seasoned cyclists!
Day 6: The most spectacular Alpine passes
98 km | 2,920 m+
From Oberwald, some of the most spectacular Alpine passes are within easy reach. After summiting the Nufenen Pass and enjoying a thrilling descent to Airolo, you face the challenge of the Gotthard Pass, with its legendary cobblestones and endless hairpin bends.
You can catch your breath on the descent to Hospental before taking on the toughest challenge of the day: the Furka Pass.
Day 7: Obergesteln – Optional Binntal – Leuk
75–101 km | 340–1,130 m+
To round off your trip, you have two options. You can follow the Rhône route from its source, riding through the villages of the Goms Valley back to Leuk.
Or, if you prefer to gain altitude, a detour into the authentic Binntal Valley is highly recommended. Discovering the landscapes of Binn is absolutely worth it!
