The route of the castles and sanctuaries runs through the Region of Murcia by bike. The idea is to visit some of the most unknown places in Spain. You will cycle between mountains and valleys, visiting castles and sanctuaries and sun-drenched villages.
This is a tour through medieval towns and villages where Iberians, Romans and Muslims passed through and where castles and sanctuaries of the time are still preserved.
Cycling in this region, you will have time to visit the beautiful old towns of several cities, from Lorca and its Fortress of the sun, Velez Blanco and its medieval castle, the holy city of Caravaca to the sanctuaries and Moorish shelters.
Without losing the nature that surrounds this route of castles and sanctuaries by bike, you will cycle along paths, ravines, local roads, valleys, wooded hills, mountain ranges, reservoirs, irrigation ditches, pedaling along the Segura River or along the Northeast Greenway, which will make more pleasant and impressive the tour of Murcia by bike.
Day 1: Arrival at Lorca
It will be time to relax, get to the hotel and enjoy Lorca and its beautiful old town.
Day 2: Lorca – Velez Blanco 45km
From Lorca we will depart to Velez Blanco. Previously we will visit the historic center and the Fortress of the Sun, it will serve us to know better the history of the medieval territory. Cycling towards Vélez Blanco we will be accompanied by a landscape of flanked valleys and wooded hills. Before finishing the stage we will visit the Castle of Xiquena, of Muslim origins from the 13th century and declared of Cultural Interest.
Day 3: Velez Blanco – Caravaca 74-94km
Today, we will leave the Andalusian mountains and enter the vast plains and hills, pedaling along ravines and roads that will lead us to Caravaca.
Caravaca is the sixth Holy City of Christendom, with its beautiful basilica – Sanctuary of the Vera Cruz.
Day 5: Caravaca – Calasparra 49km
You will cycle along the Northeast Greenway to Calasparra, passing through Moratalla. There you can see the remains of the castle and the Torre del Homenaje, as well as the remains of the civilizations that passed through Moratalla. And the beautiful old town. We will continue the route along roads between olive and almond trees.
Day 6: Calasparra – Cieza 50km
First of all, a visit to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Esperanza, patron saint of Calasparra, declared a Site of Geological Interest, will be an obligatory stop. Afterwards, we will cycle to Cieza through roads full of abundant vegetation; poplars, elms, willows… reservoirs and mountain range landscapes.
Day 7: Cieza 52km
The last stage will be through Cieza, whose Paleolithic and Neolithic sites are unique and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You can visit the entrance of the Ricote Valley, former refuge of the Moors, cycling along the Segura River. Enjoying nature with gorges, banks and a valley with a lot of history.

Yes, you can book as a single traveler.
Is it possible to rent a bike?
Yes, this trip can be done with either your bike or ours. You can choose it during the booking process, hybrid or electric mountain bikes are available.
Is the daily luggage transfer between accommodations included?
Yes, every day we will take your luggage to the next hotel. You only have to leave it at the reception desk, and we will take care of everything. Normally it will already be at the hotel when you arrive.
Is it possible to cancel?
We want to be as flexible as possible. Therefore, in case of unforeseen circumstances, we will do our best to change the dates of the trip free of charge so that you can travel within the same year, as long as you let us know at least 3 weeks in advance.
And if your plans change and you want to cancel the trip before the start date, the following handling fees will apply:
– with more than 30 days, the management fees will be 20% of the amount of the trip.
– between 30 and 15 days, the handling fee will be 50% of the amount of the trip.
– with less than 14 days, the amount to be paid will be 100% of the amount of the trip.
