It will be a great opportunity to get to know the history of the Province of Palencia on a gravel bike and its artistic, cultural and monumental heritage of Romanesque origin. During the stages you will visit small hermitages, monasteries and churches with a singular attraction of their own.
Day 1: Arrival at Cervera de Pisuerga
Relaxing day to visit Cervera de Pisuerga and its wonderful narrow streets the day before starting to cycle. Today is a day to relax and prepare for the cycling route. You can visit its beautiful old town, with emblazoned houses, narrow streets, typical buildings of the Cantabrian and Castilian landscape.
Day 2: Cervera de Pisuerga – Santa María de Mave 53km
From Cervera de Pisuerga, one of the three towns in the heart of the Montaña Palentina, characterized by its livestock, commercial and artisan tradition, our cycling route will begin.
You will start pedaling through the unspoiled natural landscape of the province. A transition zone between the Cantabrian Mountains and the Duero depression. Bordering the Aguilar Reservoir, among a landscape of oaks, pines, holm oaks and meadows, until you reach Santa María de Mave.
Day 3: Santa María de Mave – Salinas de Pisuerga 43km
In Santa María de Mave, it is mandatory to visit its Monastery, declared a Historic Artistic Monument, one of the most important Romanesque temples in Palencia. Although it has undergone modifications its church continues with the aesthetics of the time.
Continuing towards Salinas de Pisuerga. We will pedal through the natural area of the Tuerces, a set of stone forms generated as a result of water erosion and limestone rock, which has formed a kind of labyrinth. Passing through Aguilar de Campoo, a town with a great monumental and historical-cultural wealth, which makes it one of the most striking villages in the province.
Finally, again bordering the Aguilar reservoir, we will finish the stage in Salinas de Pisuerga.
Day 4: Salinas de Pisuerga – Cervera de Pisuerga 36km
Already in Salinas de Pisuerga, a municipality that owes its name, as they say, to the location of this on a salty ground. You can enjoy various monuments of the sixteenth century, including the Parish Church of San Pelayo, with a large bell tower. Or the medieval bridge that was the main access road to the municipality and that crosses the Pisuerga River.
