Good proposal to pedal through the three countries that make up the Istrian peninsula, the largest in the Adriatic Sea.
The journey begins in Trieste (Italy), a beautiful town located on a surface of karst rocks north of the Adriatic Sea and near the border with Slovenia.
You cross the fabulous forests of Slovenia to pedal along the Croatian coast and see the fishing villages and the hills by the sea to Pula. Journey of contrasts!
Do you dare to discover Istria by bike?
On the first day of pedaling, you can choose to shorten the route by taking a boat from Trieste to Muggia or pedaling through the “Val Rosandra” nature reserve. Whatever the option, once in Muggia, we will be very close to Slovenia. We will then pedal through several spa towns that we will find along the coast, enjoying its magnificent beaches: Izola (Isola d’Istria), Koper (Capodistria), Piran (Pirano) or Portorož (Portorose).
Today we will leave Slovenia through the Sečovlje salt flats and through a beautiful landscape of forests. We will enter the Istrian peninsula, the largest in the Adratic Sea. It will be worth the difference, since today we will sleep in Umag with its old town built on a Roman colony.
Today we will see the medieval walled city of Novigrad on the Adriatic coast and the most important city on the west coast of Istria. Here it will be worth visiting the Euphrasian Basilica which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Today we can choose to pedal through the interior of Porec or visit the Limski Channel or the Brijuni Islands by boat, made up of several small islands that are worth visiting. The Limski channel reminds us of the fjords of other countries.
If you are lucky, you will see dolphins greeting you!
Today will be a day to enjoy pedaling along the coast and the Adriatic Sea. We will arrive in the city of Rovinj, almost completely surrounded by the sea, with its Euphemia church.
The last day pedaling has us a surprise in store. And we will arrive at the oldest town in Istria, Pula. There, we can enjoy its Roman amphitheater.
