Prague to Dresden by bike, two countries on the same route? From Kolotrip we encourage you to make this spectacular trip starting in the famous Czech capital, Prague, and arriving in Dresden, the German city that has risen from the ashes.

It’s a route full of nature and history, and it fascinates cyclists.

You will ride along the incredible cliffs of Bohemian Switzerland, a secret paradise of the Czech Republic. You will also discover how relaxing it is to cycle through vineyards and see how beautiful it is to cross the confluence of the Elbe and Vltava rivers, simple roads suitable for everyone.

The best for the end, the views of the Bastei Bridge.

Day 1: Arrival at Prague

We arrive in the capital city of Prague. We will check in at the hotel and go straight to explore the city by ourselves. Cycling or walking through the streets of the Golden City will make you fall in love with it completely. You can’t miss the opportunity to finish the visit with a glass of local beer.

Take a rest and get your strength back – your cycling trip from Prague to Dresden has only just begun!

Day 2:  Prague – Mělník 53 km

We say goodbye to the capital and go to the castle of Trója with its royal gardens and cliffs. We will stroll through Chateau Nelahozeves from the Renaissance period; enter its courtyard and enjoy its architecture. In the distance we visualize a small house, birthplace of composer Antonín Dvořák.

From Nelahozeves, we will take a short drive to Chateau Veltrusy with its romantic park. Relax among its trees and hidden monuments that you will encounter during the walk.

How about ending the day with a glass of wine? There is no better place than in one of the best centers of Czech viticulture.

Day 3:  Mělník – Litoměřice 53 km

Today our route will be marked by the most fertile area of the Czech Republic such as the Elbe lowlands (Polabská nížina region) or the Czech garden.

During most of the day we will be able to see the volcanic mountain Říp, one of the most mythical mountains for the Czechs; this is where the Slavs came to the Bohemian lands.

You will have the opportunity before leaving for Roudnice to see the local rowing champions practicing the sport in their sports facilities. We arrive in one of the oldest towns in the Czech Republic (Roudnice) where we will have a delicious lunch.

From this point we will make a short bike ride to the Romanesque monastery of Doksany to reach the great fortress of Terezín, from the XXVIII century, known for having been a Jewish concentration camp during the Second World War.

Day 4:  Litoměřice – Děčín 52 km

On the third day we will head towards the center of the country. We will travel along a trade route along the Labe River that connects the Czech and Saxon kingdoms. We will cross the mountains via the Porta Bohemica (that’s what they call it).

We continue our route with visits to a village known for its baroque castle and vitivinivola, Masaryk gates, followed by the ancient ruins of Střekov castle located in Ústí, here is where we can find the most off-center tower north of the Alps, due to a bombing in World War II.

We will pass by Velké Březno castle ending our day cycling from Děčín with the spectacular view of a castle on top of a rock.

Day 5: Děčín – Bad Schandau 25 km + 5 ó 15 km de caminata

Today we’ll take a break from the bikes for a while by taking a ride through the Czech Switzerland National Park. It’s time to get going and get on our bikes passing spectacular cliffs – right now we are at the lowest point of the Czech Republic!

After arriving in Hřensko, we can inspect its beautiful lands – it’s time to take our pick! Walk through the largest natural arch in Central Europe Pravčická brána (Pravčice Gate) with a spectacular view or we could take a gondola ride on the Kamenice River.

Day 6: Bad Schandau – Dresde 40 km

Today is our last day on the road, we will leave in the direction of a fortress that protected a well-known trade route years ago.

We will arrive at Bastei, the best known territory of Saxon Switzerland. Its views from its bridge will leave you speechless, believe us, it is something unique.

Take a short walk along the river and rest to recharge your batteries will be necessary to climb to the castle of Neurathen (UNESCO World Heritage Site), built on a cliff connected with bridges.

We say goodbye to these beautiful lands and set off to reach the city of Dresden.

As an option we suggest you to go on its famous boats to go to Dresden and thus put the finishing touch to this experience.
