Spectacular trip from Murcia to Granada by bike between roads, trails and Greenways that will not cease to amaze you.  This is a route with a high cultural and historical value as you will cross the medieval border from the Christian Kingdom of Murcia to the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada.

Starting in Murcia you will pedal through archaeological sites, fortresses of the Nasrid Kingdom and ruins. Passing through a singular and unique landscape with a great almost desert-like plain surrounded by impressive mountain ranges to others that contrast and surprise us with a forest forest and abundant water, where you can take a break and take a bath in one of its reservoirs, such as El Negratín. Finally, there will be an ascent to the Puerto de Los Blancares from where to contemplate Sierra Nevada and to culminate at the gates of the Alhambra.

Day 1: Arrival at Murcia

Today will be a day to rest and visit Murcia, before starting to cycle. For the more adventurous can make the route to the Sanctuary of Fuensanta.

Day 2: Lorca – Velez Blanco 48km

We will go to Lorca and before we start pedaling we will visit the historic center and the Fortress of the Sun, to put us in context about the history of the medieval territory. We will continue towards Velez Blanco through a beautiful landscape between mountains and along the Guadalentin river. Arriving at the ruins of the fortress of Xiquena (which was on the border between the side of the Nasrid kingdom and the Christian). We will finish with a climb to Velez Blanco, a village with impressive baroque architecture.

Day 3: Velez Blanco – Galera 44km

In this second stage highlights the Altiplano de Granada, the area formed by a dense pine forest and then the fields of Orce. Here we recommend you to visit the Museum of the First Settlers, where you will find archaeological sites of the oldest in Europe worthy of admiration. Continuing towards Galera you can take a break in the warm waters of Fuencaliente.

Once in Galera, do not miss the site of Castellón Alto (Argaric culture), the Museum of Galera (archaeological remains) and of course the necropolis of Tutugi to learn about the Iberian culture.

Day 4: Galera – Baza 50km

Today, we will enter fully into the Geopark of Granada. We will be accompanied by impressive badlands along the valley. Then we will pass through villages that go into an area of abundant water and that gives rise to large reservoirs such as the Negratín. Climbing the hill of Jabalcón, we will find a scenic landmark of the Hoya de Baza.

Baza was occupied by the Muslims who marked the structure of its old town with Alcazaba, Arab baths, narrow streets…

Day 5: Baza – Guadix 62-84km

It will be the longest stage but you will enjoy the magnificent route that awaits us. We will continue in the middle of the Geopark of Granada, in this case you will pedal along the Vía Verde de la Sierra de Baza to the Cañón de Baúl. Towards Gorafe you can stop at the Puntal viewpoint with incredible panoramic views; Dolmens, Gor river canyon, the hot springs of Alcun, the travertine ditch, among others. Finally we will go up the Fardes river to Guadix, with a very nice old town.
