Details of the Flanders region by bike

The Flanders cycling route is an ideal mix of culture and nature. During the trip you can enjoy beautiful villages and towns. Like Roeselare and its harbour on the canal. Ypres, a city with a fascinating history that will surprise you. You can learn more about the history of the First World War at the Flanders Fields Museum. And in Dixmuda you will also discover more of the history of the area.  The most interesting city is Bruges, with its richer cultural heritage. But you are sure to fall in love with the coastal towns.

During the ride, apart from the history, the scenery you will ride through will be incredible. The river Yser, the canals and the green landscape will accompany you.

Day 1: Arrival at Roeselare

Today we will arrive at our destination, it will be a day to rest and gather strength for the route, so take the opportunity to visit the National Cycling Museum!

Day 2: Roeselare-Ypres 31km

The first day of cycling will take us to Ypres, a city famous for the attacks it suffered during the First World War. We recommend a visit to the market square and the famous Menenpoort city gate. You can also visit the museum dedicated to WWI or the cemetery. If you are more in the mood for cycling, enjoy the hills and the city wall route.

Day 3: Ypres-Dixmuda 45-60km

Today we will enjoy another medieval village Poperinge, known for the hops grown in the area. Continuing with the history of WWI you can visit “Talbot House” and also the Trappist abbey of St. Sixtus. This is where the Westlvleteren beer, voted best beer in the world, is brewed. Finally, we will drive along the banks of the Ijzer to Dixmuda.

Day 4: Dixmuda-Bruge 61km

From Dixmuide you will cycle to Bruges, cycling through the most rural and culturally attractive part of the region. In Bruges, make the most of your time and stroll through its streets, visit monuments and see the Belfort of Bruges, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 83-metre bell tower. A city you will fall in love with.

Day 5: Bruge-Knokke 59km

Today we will explore the area between Bruges and the coastal town of Knokke. It will be unforgettable to cycle through the polder and dune landscape or visit the nature reserve of Het Zwin.

Day 6: Bruge-De Haan 52km

Hoy, haremos una ruta circular conociendo otra parte costera. De Haan es un pueblecito con un encanto singular, ya que sus fachadas están decoradas con motivos florales, conservando el estilo de la “Belle Epoque” del siglo XIX.

Day 7: Bruge-Roeselare 59km

The last day of the cycling tour will take us back to Roeselare. Before we pass two castles, Aertrycke and Wijnendaele, both of which are worth a stop and a visit!
