Being the longest in Andalusia with 128 kilometers, this proposal is ideal to discover the Vía Verde del Aceite by bike, one of the most important routes in the country.
With its 13 impressive metallic viaducts as its symbol, it crosses the provinces of Jaén and Córdoba accompanied by stupendous views of olive groves.
Since the construction of the first section, the “oil train”, was completed in 1881, this line has been used not only to transport oil, but also coal, lead and other metals. Now it has been adapted for the practice of cycle tourism in a smooth and off-road route.
This trip can be done in three different versions depending on the number of stages:
3 stages, 4 days and 3 nights. 121km approx. From Jaén to Puente Genil
2 stages, 3 days and 2 nights. 52km approx. circular stages from Doña Mencía
Option of 3 stages and 3 nights. Jaén – Puente Genil 121km
Day 1: Arrival in Jaén
Today will be a day to get to know the city of Jaén and rest before starting the adventure.
Day 2: Jaén – Alcaudete 49km
Bicycle pick-up at km 0 of the Greenway and Self-guided bicycle route to Alcaudete.
Day 3: Alcaudete – Doña Mencía 27km
Self-guided bicycle route to Doña Mencía. Visit to the Mencian Wine Museum or Cave of the Bats (Zuheros) and dinner with views of the Sierras Subbeticas Natural Park.
Day 4: Doña Mencía – Puente Genil 45km
Self-guided bicycle route to Puente Genil. It is recommended to visit the historical center of Cabra and Lucena. End of the trip and transfer to Jaén.
Weekend Option of 2 stages and 2 nights. Circular routes from Doña Mencía
Day 1: Arrival and accommodation at Hotel Mencia Subbetica Arrival at accommodation
Day 2: Doña Mencía to Alcaudete.27 km
Transfer from Alcaudete to Doña Mencía and visit to Doña Mencia (Charming Corners Route)
Day 3: Doña Mencía to Lucena.25 km
End of the trip and transfer back to Doña Mencía

What is it like to do the Vía Verde del Aceite?

Always valuing the comfort when arriving with the bike and inspected by our team. They are 3-4 star hotels and rural tourism accommodation, always in private rooms with bathroom and good food!

Yes, you can book as a single traveler.
Is it possible to rent a bike?
Yes, this trip can be done with either your bike or ours. You can choose it during the booking process, hybrid or electric mountain bikes are available.
Is the daily luggage transfer between accommodations included?
Yes, every day we will take your luggage to the next hotel. You only have to leave it at the reception desk, and we will take care of everything. Normally it will already be at the hotel when you arrive.
Is it possible to cancel?
We want to be as flexible as possible. Therefore, in case of unforeseen circumstances, we will do our best to change the dates of the trip free of charge so that you can travel within the same year, as long as you let us know at least 3 weeks in advance.
And if your plans change and you want to cancel the trip before the start date, the following handling fees will apply:
– with more than 30 days, the management fees will be 20% of the amount of the trip.
– between 30 and 15 days, the handling fee will be 50% of the amount of the trip.
– with less than 14 days, the amount to be paid will be 100% of the amount of the trip.
In order to have more flexibility, we recommend taking out travel, assistance, CR and cancellation insurance. Check with us the conditions. Please note that the price of the insurance is not refunded once contracted in case of cancellation or modification.
Are there roads?
Practically the entire trip is on Vias Verdes, tracks or asphalt roads. If you make the stage to Valencia, there are a few kilometers of link that are made by road where you should drive with caution.
