Fabulous trip to discover the inland regions of Croatia by bike. Just 20 kilometers from the warmest coastal areas of the country, there are deep forests, mountains and lakes that deserve to be discovered by bicycle.
It is not a trip to see the Croatian coastline, but instead you will pedal through 3 of Croatia’s main national parks by bike where the bear, wolf and lynx can still be found in the wild.
The lakes of the Plitvicer natural park and its spectacular waterfalls stand out.
Do you want to know Croatia by bike?
The first stage will be a beautiful circular route through the Risnjak National Park, 25 km away. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to spot a lynx while you explore the area on foot or by bike.
After visiting the park, in the late afternoon, you will return to the hotel.
Today’s stage will be demanding, but it will be worth it. First you will cross fields pedaling and discovering the area that will take you to a beautiful forest. After several kilometers through a forest of the few that remain in Europe, you will reach some beautiful hills sloping towards the Adriatic, which have been eroded by the Bora wind. From here, the views across the Kvarn Bay islands are breathtaking. On the horizon, you see Krk and the lunar landscapes of Rab and Pag. And on clear enough days you can see Dugi Otok.
We will finish the stage in the small town of Otočac on the Gacka river, known for its abundance of trout.
Today is the turn to visit the Plitvice Lakes National Park, the largest in Croatia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pedaling through small typical country villages and through a beautiful mountainous landscape, you will reach the Plitvice Lakes.
The park is worth exploring for the variety of vegetation and waterfalls and the colors of the surrounding fish and dragonflies. It will be a beautiful day.
Today will be a different day, as we cycle along the Bosnian border through forests and picturesque villages to Slunj (known as the mini Plitvice Lakes).
Here the river Slunjčica branches and flows through numerous waterfalls and ancient mills. The hotel is located in the center of this wonderful city.
Today’s route will take us to Karlovac, a fortress city founded in 1579 at the confluence of four rivers, it is considered an outstanding example of Renaissance architecture. The baroque historical center offers many corners that are worth visiting. Give yourself some time in the afternoon to walk around and sample a glass of the local Karlovacko beer.
