Details of the Capitals of Central Europe bike trip

Cycle through Central Europe from Prague to Berlin – are you ready to discover all it has to offer?

It’s a long distance trip but easy to cycle, as the vast majority are flat roads along the Elbe River, one of the main rivers in Central Europe. In addition, the route tends to be downhill for almost the entire bike trip.

Bastei, called the little German Switzerland, could not be missed. One of the most famous and impressive viewpoints you will ever see.

We leave Prague and our route is full of palaces and castles until we reach the wine regions of the Elbe.  Discover the pine forests of Saxony and Brandenburg.

It’s time to hit the road!

Day 1: Arrival at Prague

We arrive in the capital city of Prague. We will check in at the hotel and go straight to explore the city by ourselves. Cycling or walking through the streets of the Golden City will make you fall in love with it completely. You can’t miss the opportunity to finish the visit with a glass of local beer.

Rest and get your strength back, your trip has only just begun!

Day 2: Prague – Mělník 53 km

We say goodbye to the capital and go to the castle of Trója with its royal gardens and cliffs. We will stroll through Chateau Nelahozeves from the Renaissance period; enter its courtyard and enjoy its architecture. In the distance you will visualize a small house, birthplace of composer Antonín Dvořák.

From Nelahozeves, we will take a short drive to Chateau Veltrusy with its romantic park. Relax among its trees and hidden monuments that you will encounter during the walk.

How about ending the day with a glass of wine? There is no better place than in one of the best centers of Czech viticulture.

Day 3: Mělník – Litoměřice 52 km

Today our route will be marked by the most fertile area of the Czech Republic as the Czech garden.

During most of the day we will have near our sight the volcanic mountain Říp, one of the most mythical mountains of the Czechs; this is where the Slavs arrived to the Bohemian lands. Get to know its history, it is very interesting.

Do you like rowing? If you want, you can watch how the local champions practice the sport in their sports facilities.

We arrive to one of the oldest cities of the Czech Republic (Roudnice) where we will have a delicious lunch. From this point we will make a short bike ride to the monastery of Doksany to reach the great fortress of Terezín, from the XXVIII century, known for having been a Jewish concentration camp during the Second World War.

Day 4: Litoměřice – Děčín 52 km

On the third day we will head towards the center of the country, crossing a route along the Labe River that connects the Czech and Saxon kingdoms and crossing the mountains. A great opportunity to discover new corners full of nature and beauty.

We will reach some ancient ruins of a castle, the Střekov castle located in Ústí. Here we can find the most off-center tower north of the Alps, due to a bombing in World War II.

We will pass by Velké Březno castle ending our day cycling from Děčín with the spectacular view of a castle on top of a rock.
